What Is a Breast Augmentation?
What is a breast augmentation? There is a lot of misinformation on the internet and Dr. Phil Haeck, board certified plastic surgeon at the Seattle Polyclinic Plastic Surgery, provides his patients with the truth and the options that are important for them. When considering a breast augmentation and breast implants, talk with your plastic surgeon about what size and shape is best for your body.
Hi, I’m Dr. Phil Haeck and I’m a board certified plastic surgeon in Seattle, Washington. I work for the Polyclinic Plastic Surgery. I’ve been doing breast augmentation for 25 years.
So women want to know what a breast augmentation involves. It involves placing an implant either under the pectoral muscle or under the gland alone on top of the pectoral muscle and an incision to do that. And there are multiple approaches. Those incisions have to be customized to a woman’s own unique anatomy.
The width of your breast is a key factor in determining what’s the right implant. If you already have breasts that are close together, it won’t take a large implant to give you lots of cleavage lines but if your breasts are far apart, there might be a very large implant for you that will get you to that point but you might have to go larger than you would want.
You know, there’s a lot of information about implants on the internet. But the decision of what’s the right implant for you should be done based on your own anatomy with a plastic surgeon who has experience with all types of implants.
I get asked lots of questions from women who have been searching the internet for augmentation issues. And there is so much misinformation out there. I think it’s important to set the record straight. There are different types of implants and women should do their research as to what’s the right implant for them. It can be so confusing however that I also tell my patients I’m going to give you the straight truth about the best implant for you, how to put it in with a minimal scar and what your recovery is going to be like.
